There is a two year Medical Qigong Therapist MQT Program

Medical Qigong Certification

The entire program is 4 years if a student wishes to attain the highest level of certification possible, Doctorate of Medical Qigong. There are 4 levels of certification  that occur after successful completion of each year:

  1. Medical Qigong Practitioner MQP (year 1)
  2. Medical Qigong Therapist MQT (year 2)
  3. Master's in Medical Qigong MMQ (year 3)
  4. Doctorate of Medical Qigong DMQ (year 4)

The first 3 levels of curriculum has been standardized by Dr Jerry Johnson, the founder of the International Institute of Medical Qigong. We are currently following the new syllabus as created by Dr Johnson with the publishing of his new books.  The Doctorate material was created by Lisa VanOstrand with the idea of presenting new and advanced qigong material. Under special circumstances, some classes may be taken without the prior class (although certification requires that all classes are eventually attended).

In the event of missed time due to unforeseen circumstances, participants will be able to make-up the time via private sessions.

Class 1: INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL QIGONG THERAPY AND HEALING
This first class has an emphasis on MQ exercises. These exercises are a basis for creating and maintaining a strong physical, mental and spiritual foundation. Before we can heal others, we must first heal ourselves. As a healing practitioner, we must keep our energy vital, be free of charged emotions and have a strong connection to the divine. These exercises help us to maintain health and vitality, to clear physical and emotional toxins as well as reconnect us with our true spiritual nature. Students will also learn and experience the physical, psychological and spiritual nature of each organ and their associated meridian pathways. Students will begin learning psychological theories that are complementary to this work. All classes consists of both theory and experimental.

Class 2: INTRODUCTION TO ENERGETIC SENSING AND MEDICAL QIGONG HEALING PROTOCOLS
This second class introduces the student to the basic qigong healing protocols for treating clients including techniques for energy purging, tonifying and regulating. Through meditations and practice, the student will have opportunity to develop their intuitive and perception skills and to practice energy sensing for diagnosis. Students will experience the importance of focused intention; intention leads the mind and the mind leads the qi. Students will also learn protective techniques for their energy field to avoid absorbing toxic qi while treating clients.

Class 3: CLINICAL FOUNDATIONS OF MEDICAL QIGIONG THERAPY
The third class continues to give the student foundational material to establish a healing practice or a clinic. Additional Qigong healing techniques are covered including invisible needles and energetic point therapy. Additional prescription exercises are covered for internal organs and the use of healing sound therapy. Students also learn how to combine MQ with other healing modalities.

Class 4: THE TREATMENT OF ORGAN DISEASES AND MEDICAL QIGONG PRESCRIPTION EXERCISES
The fourth class continues to explore the role of organs and organ disease in traditional Chinese medicine and Qigong. The class will explore treatment of liver, heart, spleen, stomach, lung and kidney diseases. Each organ is looked in terms of treatment protocols as well as appropriate prescription exercises to give the client.

Clinic 1: CLINICAL THEATRE, INTERNSHIP AND FINAL EXAMINATION
The clinic will be the culminating event for each of the certification programs (MQP, MQT, and MMQ). The clinic offers the student the opportunity to treat clients in a supervised setting. This allows the student to become progressively more confident in diagnosis and treating clients. It also give the student an opportunity to learn how to maintain good client records.
